DKI Jakarta is ranked 28th most populous city in the world, with a population of
approximately 11 million over an area of around 664.01 square KM according to world
population review data in 2023. This is caused by a population explosion, resulting in
increased mobility of Jakarta's population. The majority of Jakarta residents use private vehicles, which are stuck in traffic jams.

Unika Sugijapranata transportation observer Djoko Setijowarno estimates that economic losses from traffic jams in Jabodetabek
reach IDR 133 trillion annually. Several challenges that will be faced in implementing a
transit-centric development or TOD system include, among others, land status. ,
availability of residential transportation facilities, management, and maintenance of
housing, construction, and certification.
