The Youth Pledge became a great momentum for the unity of the Indonesian people in
one nation, one language and one blood. The moment of Youth Pledge was initiated by
the unity of all the country’s youth. The beginning of the awakening of the nation’s youth
was marked by the establishment of Boedi Oetomo, which then encouraged the
emergence of various other youth organizations. The Second Youth Congress was
initiated by PPPI and attended by various representatives from youth organizations,
held in 3 different places. The congress was held two days from October 27 to 28, 1928.
The Youth Pledge script was written by Mohammad Yamin, which later became a script
to unite the Indonesian nation. At the moment of the Youth Pledge, for the first time, the
national anthem, Indonesia Rara by Wr Supratman, was played and published by Sin
Po newspaper. What the youth struggled for in 1928 became the foundation for the
Indonesian people to remain independent and united under one red and white flag.
