With its 270 million population, Indonesia has great power to emerge as a champion in
the digital economy era. One is by immediately ending analog TV broadcasts and
migrating to digital. How big is the economic impact? And is the government ready to
migrate to digital?
As of November 2, 2022, analog TV broadcasts will be officially stopped, and the public
will enjoy digital TV broadcasts. Digital TV broadcasts have a fantastic economic
impact. There is a potential increase in GDP of around Rp 443 trillion, PNBP of around
Rp 77 trillion, and 230 thousand new jobs and 181 thousand new business units.
Nailul Huda, the INDEF researcher, believes there will be a multiplier effect if Indonesia
succeeds in digital TV migration. Broadcasting activist Lily Rustandi believes that even
though it is late, the migration should be done immediately and not be delayed. This will
have an impact on business investment and network speed.
Although lagging in ASEAN, Indonesia still has the hope to enjoy Digital TV migration.
The biggest challenge is socialization and hardware for analog TV users.
