In addition to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, the threat of Jakarta sinking is on
the horizon. Land subsidence occurs every year. If not handled properly, it is predicted
that 2050, the coast of Jakarta will sink. Land subsidence increases the risk of flooding
in Jakarta. Bogor Agricultural Institute revealed that land subsidence in Jakarta has
occurred since 1975. to overcome this problem, the provincial government of DKI
Jakarta built a giant sea wall from the Bay of Jakarta. However, this policy needs to be
considered as the right way out. Several facts show the correlation between land
subsidence and flooding in Jakarta. Exploitation is suspected to be the cause of land
subsidence in Jakarta.
