Recently, Indonesians have been shocked by the invention of Nikuba, a machine that is claimed to convert water into motor vehicle fuel. Aryanto Misel, 67, claims his invention can convert water into a substitute for fuel oil. This tool converts water with the concept of electrolysis. Electrolysis is the process of decomposing water compounds into oxygen and hydrogen using electric current. Water becomes a storage medium for hydrogen, which, when extracted, becomes fuel. The electrolysis process is a clean process without leaving emissions of greenhouse gases. As an archipelago, Indonesia has many water resources, which is a significant capital to produce hydrogen as a clean fuel. This is the right solution to mitigate the climate crisis. To produce hydrogen gas as fuel requires technology and also considerable energy that is environmentally friendly. The National Research and Innovation Agency, BRIN, is developing green hydrogen by electrolysis. The Director General of EBTKE has also conducted market sounding and will bring in several production units from abroad. The government targets 2029, when Indonesia can produce hydrogen on a large scale. And in 2040, it can be used for commercial, both industry and transportation.
