I went directly to the North Coast of Semarang, Central Java, which was almost
drowned. People’s houses and public cemeteries were submerged by seawater.
Residents have difficulty raising their houses because the water comes bigger every
year, submerging them. The Semarang city government is still working on the
construction of the barrier. The Pemali Juana River Basin Agency (BBWS) has
confirmed that construction will begin in November 2022 and be completed by Marc 2024 In addition, to mitigate disasters beyond prediction, the BBWS prepared 3 pumps.
However, the BPDB considers the dam’s construction the right solution for now, and it
has also ready katanas so that residents can adapt to their homes.
